Making Words
Each week, students will be participating in activities called Making Words that will replace weekly spelling words and tests. Making Words is an activity which helps children become good spellers and word decoders. Making Words is like a puzzle for students to solve. Students are asked to arrange the letters to see that by changing just one letter, adding a letter or moving the letters around, they can create a whole new word. Using word families and rhyming patterns are an important part of the activities. Children also like trying to solve the puzzle of figuring out the secret word which can be made from all the letters listed.
